The Massachusetts Firefighting Academy Crib Room regrets to announce the death of FF Edward “Ed” Loder. Hired on August 6, 2006, Ed spent many years working in the Crib Room, primarily as a driver for tractor trailer deliveries.
Prior to DFS, he worked for 43 years as a Firefighter for the Boston Fire Department, where he spent the majority of his career assigned to Rescue 1.
Ed was one of the best to ever work in the Crib. While highly respected for his Class A driving
abilities, Ed was one of the people that made the Crib Room such a special place to work. He could frequently be found at the lunch table with a crowd listening intently as he told stories of fires, antics, and experiences that seem unfathomable by today’s standards. His quotes were oft repeated, and he was “a legend” in the truest sense.
Beyond that, Ed was most respected for his heroics and skill as a firefighter. He remains the most decorated member in the long history of the Boston Fire Department.
May he rest in peace.
