MIFDI President Mark Roche regrets to report the death of long-time MIFDI member, John J. O’Donoghue Assistant Chief (Retired), Cambridge Fire Department.

John served our country as a veteran in the U.S. Army.

He was appointed to the Cambridge Fire Department on May 1, 1966. He retired as Operations Chief on December 10, 2004 after over 38-years.

John was a real gentleman and a true fire service professional. His legacy will be his knowledge and contribution to ensuring firefighter safety regarding elevator operations during firefighting and using proper and safe extrication practices with removal of passengers in stalled elevators.

John seldom missed a MIFDI meeting and always contributed an update on elevator ops.

He will be greatly missed.
