The June meeting of MIFDI will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2016 (NOTE: This is the third Wednesday). We will be hosted by the Department of Fire Services – Springfield Campus courtesy of Fire Marshal Peter Ostroskey and Manager of DFS West Peter Shipman.
The new Springfield facility, located at 100 Grochmal Ave, was formerly dedicated on December 1, 2015. The 6-acre campus includes a 3-story live-fire training prop, a 5-story training tower, a new administration building, classrooms, locker room and showers, and 3-bay apparatus floor for storing two new MFA pumpers and DFS Incident Support Units.
Those of us in the fire service, especially those involved in training, will be impressed to see this $13.4-million training facility.
The trip is aprox 76-miles which take 1-hour/18-minutes. For those who remember our annual June meetings in Barnstable, it is about the same travel distance.
DIRECTIONS:
Take the Mass Pike (I-90) to Exit 6; go straight through the toll booth. At the traffic light, turn left onto I-291 and immediately take the first right, Exit 6. Continue straight through the first traffic light (Fuller Rd). At the second light, turn left on Rt.141, (East Main St which will turn into Worcester Rd). Travel 1-mile and Grochmal Ave will be on your left.
For our “senior members”, we will have a 12-passenger van for the trip. We will have a meeting point at Weston Station 2, 390 South Ave (Rt. 30). Members will be allowed to safely leave their vehicles in the parking lot courtesy of Chief David Soar. The first 11-members who contact me at [email protected] will be saved a seat in the van. Others may carpool and we can convoy together from Weston if you desire.
